“Success is not built on success. It’s built on failure. It’s built on frustration. Sometimes its built on catastrophe.”
While I don’t picture myself as a successful guy, so that quote actually doesn’t relate entirely, I had my quota of experiences and attempts that, huh… err, failed. I do try to build upon my experience and now that age is taking its toll (hehehehe), I find myself doing a lot more introspection about “what went worng” and “what could I have done better” regarding all my aventures in adulthood-land.
I am particularly interested in keeping track of what did not go right with whatever attempt to create a business or going into some work project, job or venture. So, I decided to start a series of articles on that subject, here at serso.com.
A few of such “ventures” that I want to talk about and perform a business “postmortem” to, are:
1. My first company, in Lisbon, that closed in 1989 failed because of my failed marriage?
2. Imperio Tours: they almost fulfilled a dream to all Portuguese living in Toronto…
3. Why things went wrong with me and PizzaPizza, where I worked as a Senior Analyst
4. My dearest project, SerSo Systems, that never quite made it into being “the” ISP for Portuguese speakers in Toronto…
5. The venture with Risa, in the Azores went to nothingness, although I had secured the best customer and a winning partnership!
For now, I will write about those. Then, I will try and give some insight on what happened after I came back from Silicon Valley.
In all those cases, the truth is that I DID NOT FAIL, as far as I can remember. But I made bad calls and mistakes, and mistakes were made by others that lead to those projects never reaching the right momentum to keep going and succeed.
Maybe I will figure out some more truths about it if I actually write about it, and that will help me and others the same way a business case study helps learning options about our management decisions.
We shall see.
Cheers to you all!
